After announcing a wave of travel bans last week, the U.S. administration has now proposed adding 36 more countries to the list. The bias feels loud and clear.
As the pie chart above shows, 29 of the countries are located in Africa and the Caribbean (80%), a pattern that raises serious concerns about racial and regional targeting.
Unlike the previous round of bans, these 36 countries have been given 60 days to comply with vague documentation and security requirements laid out by the Trump administration.
It’s worth noting that athletes from these countries planning to travel for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will not be impacted by the restrictions.
Countries named include:
Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
What are your thoughts? How do you think these countries will respond; diplomatically or otherwise? Let me know in the comments below!
